Leadership is all about Distant Follow-ups

“The best executive is the one who has sense enough to pick good men to do what he wants done, and self-restraint to keep from meddling with them while they do it.” ― Theodore Roosevelt

In times yonder, few people were liberated enough, to assert their individualities, and thus emerge as leaders. With advent of technology and social networking platforms, everyone feels she can articulate fairly well, and emphatically. People are no more voiceless sheep who can be led by bellwether.

Thus we can sense inadequacy of effective leadership by people who were cut into mould of heroes and heroines and presentable persona and voice. All sorts of people are arising as leaders of the situation and context. Vision is no more an exclusive demesne of a few ivy-league stamped.

With a maturing of individuality and own thinking, delegation I being asked for as a right – and thus what aligns various initiatives and procedures is timely follow-ups. The overall coordination between lead and lag of multiple threads is constantly compiled in the leader’s head – this is what brings task completion and fine tuning of vision.

Mind it, too meddlesome follow-ups are seen as interference and encroachment on one’s turf. So t has to be a distant level of follow-up, not very periodic. To conclude:

“Leaders must be close enough to relate to others, but far enough ahead to motivate them.” ― John C. Maxwell
